The international sanctions imposed on Libya during the 2011 uprising limited the amount of aid that could reach the country until late April. During this time, the NLF lead fundraising efforts between several other aid groups to deliver food and medical aid from the island of Malta in the Mediterranean to the war-torn and besieged city of Misurata. The NLF Misurata Aid mission was based in Sleima, Malta, lasted three weeks, and shipped roughly $50,000 in aid to Misurata.
